Description of a cattle rush

"I've never seen a worse sight and I'm an old soldier; the cattle had rushed straight over the big thorough-braced wagon that normally would carry three ton of gear. The wagon itself was a heap of matchwood and the bodies of the stockmen, the ringers, were laying there. They hadn't had time even to get free of their swags. The bullocks had gone over the top of them and they looked like hamburger meat. The only one we could recognise was the cook, and that was because of his bulk. I reckon that day on the reserve was the worst thing I ever saw in all my years working with cattle." (Source: The Drovers by Keith Willey)
